  1. Roll the eight-sided die 86 times.
  2. Convert each result to its three-bit value shown beside it.
  3. Enter the bits from left to right, continuing on the next row.
  4. The 86 rolls produce 258 bits. Discard the final two, leaving 256 entropy bits.
  5. Rows 1–23 use all 11 cells. In row 24, enter only the first three bits; the yellow-underlined eight cells are the calculated checksum.

Value → BIP39 word

For every row, multiply each bit by the numbered value above it, then add the results. A 0 contributes nothing, so you can simply add the headings wherever the bit is 1.

11000111011 = 1×1024 + 1×512 + 1×32 + 1×16 + 1×8 + 1×2 + 1×1 = 1595 → shuffle

The total is the row’s zero-based index in the official 2,048-word BIP39 English word list. For example: 0 = abandon, 1 = ability.
